Great Value Reds Mixed Case –
September 2022

$195 value for just $125

Holy cow, have we found some great deals for our latest "Great Value Reds" case!  Possibly the "Greatest Value" Great Value Reds case we've done yet.

The mixed case includes 2 bottles each wine:
Bouchon Pais Viejo (Chile) - Late in the 19th Century, the Bouchon family left Bordeaux for the warmer clime of Chile's Maule Valley. Now in their fourth generation, the family has employed the expertise of terroir consultant Pedro Parra in an effort to more closely work with the area's natural advantages. The fruit from their dry-farmed, 100-year-old País vines - which are allowed to climb up the nearby trees - is hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts, and aged in concrete for four months before bottling. Rustic, wild, juicy, and free, its nose opens with fresh strawberry and sour cherry, with countryside floral notes woven throughout. The palate's crunchy fruits lead into herbaceous tones, with youthful acidity and pleasantly grippy tannins. Try serving with a slight chill, perhaps alongside tomato-based pastas, seafood, or light and salty cheeses.
Generation 1905 Grenache (France) - Since 1905 the Descombe family has produced hand-crafted, estate grown wines from their unique terroirs.  Tasting like a Cotes du Rhone or Gigondas that normally costs 2-3 times the price the Generation 1905 in an amazing value (90 points Wine Enthusiast!).  The nose delivers red cherry and cranberry alongside a white pepper accent. Juicy red fruit is echoed on the palate that's loaded with bouncy acidity and gentle tannins. A blanket of vanilla and white pepper marks the close.
Vina Las Perdices "Que Guapo Red" (Argentina) -

“Que Guapo” means you’re “looking very good” in Spanish, and the label evokes the colorful La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires, where tango dancers party in the streets. It might as well mean good tasting, too — this blend of malbec, syrah and bonarda is a fun, delicious red for your patio parties.  Whether it’s burgers on the grill or a full-fledged Argentine-style asado, here’s a perfect red for the occasion.  A blend of Malbec, Bonarda & Syrah.

Carmenet Reserve Merlot (Carmenet) - Its been 3-4 years since we've been able to get our hands on the Carmenet wines, so we're happy to have the Merlot and Chardonnay back in stock. Even happier that the new distributor offered us a dozen cases of the 2017 vintage that has been ageing (an getting better) in their warehouse for their last few years waiting for the rights to sell the brand in NC.  82% Merlot blended with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, Rubired, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Ripe fruit aromas of fresh berries, red plum and cherry are robust and lead to rich flavors of fresh berry pie, milk chocolate and notes of black tea on the palate. The wine is well structured with a juicy mouthfeel, smooth tannins and a lasting finish.

Sao Sebastio "SyTR" Vinho Lisboa (Portugal) - "SyTR"= Syrah and Tinta Roriz.  Quinta de Sao Sebastio is a historic winery in Portugal's Lisboa district and has been producing estate wines since the 1700's.  An expressive blend, with a dark plum color and intense aromas of wild berries, along with discreet spicy notes and a touch of minerality. This is an utter delight: scented with jasmine, bulging with ripe black plums, mulberry and blueberry fruit with the merest tug of chewy tannin, and as you swallow, back comes the jasmine.

Grayson Zinfandel (California) - Grayson Zinfandel shows a dark color with rich mixed raspberries, strawberries and brambles surrounded by hints of spice including black pepper and bacon. Intense richness carries through on the palate of this full bodied wine with explosive blackberry and vanilla flavors.
