Chasing Lions Pinot Noir (California) – The Chasing Lions Cabernet has been one of our best selling wines for a couple of vintages now, but their 2018 Pinot Noir is poised to take center stage.  A sumptuous Pinot Noir opens with lush aromas of ripe cherries, orange peel, violets, and fig leaf. The balanced, spicy mouth is densely layered with flavors of dried Turkish apricots and vanilla bean. The finish lingers long with flavors of caramel and cloves.

Bodegas Desde “Luis Gurpegui Muga Primi” Rioja Tempranillo (Rioja, Spain) – This bottling pays tribute to Luis Gurpegui Muga, one of Spain’s most influential winemakers and son of the winery’s founder.  Deep cherry color that suggests a young and vibrant wine. Nose is rich in aromas and pronounced in intensity. We are struck by the ripe red fruit, later we get the wood nuances with gently sweet notes of vanilla to finish with other sweet spices. On the palate it is perfumed, soft and fresh with a long finish that leaves memories of red fruit, vanilla and cocoa.

Famiglia Grillo Red (Sicily, Italy) – Ok, we admit, this might be a little confusing if you’ve been reading our newsletters this summer as we’ve featured a couple of white Grillo wines lately. Those fantastically refreshing wines are also from Sicily, but here Grillo is the name of the winery, not the grape.  Familiglia Grillo’s Rosso is a Sicilian blend of Nero d’Avola and Merlot from the family’s certified organic vineyards.  The current vintage has a nuanced, spicy flavor, with hints of dark berries, rum raisin, cocoa, herbs, and oak and is great with classic Italian fare such as red sauced pastas and hard cheeses.

Pontbriand Valcluse (Rhone River Valley, France) - This fabulous red is from the southern Franch region of Vaucluse and is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Caladoc, Syrah 10%, Marselan 10%. Crafted from the estate’s thirty-five years old vines, they are traditionally vinified to produce a wine which is immediate in its impact: Sumptuous fruit abounds from start to finish, from heady aromas, tinged with violets, to the flavors engraved with a plump generosity, lasting all the way to a smooth and savory finish.

Bodegas Oliveros Tinto (Jumilla, Spain) - Oliveros never fails to deliver fantastic value, and this year’s Tinto is no exception.  Blend of Monastrell, Garnacha and Syrah from the Southern Spain region of Jumilla.  Jumilla is known for producing dark fruit, lush wines; the key is finding depth without overwhelming fruit.  This one is a stays bright with good acidity, offering a brilliant bouquet, smooth texture and freshness.  Dark berries and cherry notes on the nose, fresh in the mouth, with sweet, vibrant dark fruit, with touches of pepper.

Peachy Canyon "Incredible Red" Zinfandel (Paso Robles, CA) – Founded in 1988, Peachy Canyon has become one of Paso Robles’ most well-known wineries.  Things haven’t changed since the 2nd generation has taken over the winery, and Peachy Canyon is still one of the region’s top producers.  The Incredible Red is their “everyday” Red Zinfandel, crafted to be easy drinking and affordable.  A rich and fruity nose opens with black cherry, blackberry, nutmeg, and vanilla, leading into toffee, cigar, and cherry wood. On the palate the wine is round and sumptuous, with notes of cherry, clove, and orange oil. This Incredible Red meets and exceeds the promise in its name.
