Fall is here and that means a fresh box full of delicious reds to go with a slight chill in the air and your favorite harvest foods.
Mixed Case includes 2 bottles each:
Morgante "Rosso de Morgante" Nero d'Avola (Sicily) - Aromas of crushed plums, black tea, fresh flowers and blackberries. Medium-to full-bodied with silky tannins. Notes of coffee and black licorice on the palate mix with the black fruit and berries. Nicely balanced intensity.
Joncier "Regard" Lirac Rouge (France) - We've featured a couple of deliciously elegant and earthy reds from this tiny, uber-organic winery from Lirac, France. The latest to make it onto the Taylor's shelf is their Syrah based blend called "Regard." This red is made with 65% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 8% Carignan and 7% Cinsault. Aromas of peonies, and bright red cherries grace the nose, while on the palate you will find focused minerality and notes of black pepper.
Valdemar "Valdemoreda" Tempranillo (Spain) - For over 125 years, five generations of the Bujanda family have produced some of the finest wines from Rioja. Sometimes you're not looking for the "finest" wine out there, and cheap, tasty and won't give you a hangover is what evening calls for. This delicious, inexpensive Tempranillo is just the thing. This pure Tempranillo red wine spends five months in oak and delivers complex, ripe fruit aromas well integrated with subtle spicy hints of vanilla and caramel. The palate is rounded, well balanced and with a surprisingly full and long finish.
MWC (McPherson Wine Co.) Shiraz/Mourvedre (Australia) - With just 5% Mourvedre as well as a splash of Viognier, we're not sure why they bothered putting Mourvedre on the label, but regardless of what the blend is, it's darned tasty. It begins with a pleasant aroma of blackberry, black raspberry, spice, some nice floral notes and a touch of vanilla. Tasting reveals it to be smooth and savory with really tasty fruit along with leather, oaky spice and even a hint of savory herbs. It tastes more along the lines of a Northern Rhone style of Syrah than your typical Aussie Shiraz.
Fairvalley Pinotage (South Africa) - Fall is prime grilling season and few wines are as good with charcoal grilled or smoked fare as Pinotage. Shows bright red color in the glass, with smoky oaked spice aromas and intense dark fruit on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied, with notes of vanilla and coffee intertwined with well balanced tannins that add to the flavors of spice vanilla on the finish.
Noah River Cabernet Sauvignon (California) - Just like the latest version of the Noah River Pinot Noir may be the best one yet from winemaker Jamey Whetstone, the new vintage of the Noah Cab hits another high water mark. Dark ruby in color with a complex nose brimming with brambly blackberry, rhubarb pie, plum, orange peel and marjoram. Secondary notes of savory, ripe red berry, and cigar box. Ripe, medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, red raspberry and plum. Finishes long with bright notes of red fruits, framed up nicely with lingering plum and a hint of tobacco.
