Domaine Bellevue Gamay Touraine – A Village level Gamay from the Burgundy/Beaujolais district of this quality would easily cost twice the price of the Bellevue. Patrick Vauvy took over the family Domaine in 1991 which today has 18 hectares of vineyards planted with several of Loire’s classic varietals, including Gamay. A vibrant robe of garnet and a bouquet that’s floral and fresh, with a hint of minerality. Tones of soft earthiness come only after being enveloped by a delicious expression of cassis and red ripe cherry fruit. Classicly light in its structure, with well-balanced acidity yet this beautiful Gamay wine does not lack complexity, finishing with pretty fruit flavors accented by soft tannins, and hints of spice.
Altitudes Cotes du Roussillon Red - Altitudes is made from grapes selected from the top vineyards in the Roussillon region of France, situated close to the Mediterranean Sea, just 25 miles from the eastern Spanish border. This area is very warm but thanks to the altitude (600 feet), the wines have a nice mineral finish that balances out the ripeness. Cyril Henriques is the talented winemaker who selects the plots and is in charge from farming directive, to vinification and through to bottling. This particular cuvee is made from a subtle blend of three grape varieties, 45% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 25% Carignan: Syrah for its character, Grenache for its richness, and old Carignan vines for the structure. Beginning with a burst of aromas of dark berries and spice on the nose. The palate is fresh and smooth with undertones of licorice, blackberries and blackcurrants finishing well-balanced and long.
Clamens Le Petit Clamens Merlot/Syrah - The Clamens family began making wine in 1868 at their chateau estate near Toulouse, France. Today, winemaker Jean Michel Begue runs the Château vineyards and winery which was recently certified with France's prestigious Farm with High Environmental Value (HEV), a certification awarded to farms that voluntarily utilize environmentally-friendly practices associated with biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertilizer use and management of water. Le Petit Clemens a medium to full-bodied ruby red wine boasting notes of strawberry, raspberry and blackberry on the nose, leading to an equally fruity and intense palate. A 50% Merlot/50% Syrah blend it is best enjoyed with juicy grilled meats, particularly steak or beef brisket, and root vegetable dishes.
Coto de Hayas Garnacha Centenaria - Coto de Hayas' lush and juicy style Spanish Garnacha has been one of our best-selling reds since we featured it in one of our sampler packs last summer. Our distributor was down to their last few cases, so we grabbed them all to get them at a fantastic, "last gas" price and we're passing the deal along. Produced from 100 year-old plantings, Garnacha Centenaria is an example of extraordinary value. These bush-trained vines produce low yields of 1kg/vine, giving a wine of great depth and complexity. A short, four-month aging in new French oak adds cozy richness that the wine wears well. Aromas of dried flowers, ripe and dried strawberry, dark plum, and baking spice open freely from the glass. On the palate, ripe red and blue fruits, licorice, and warm baking spices coat the palate, with zesty acidity bringing freshness, closing in luscious oak tannin. An excellent choice as an accompaniment to anything grilled, especially meats and mushrooms.
Silk & Spice Portuguese Red – Named to Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Values again this year, the Silk & Spice red is a perennial favorite and incredible wine for less than $15. This celebration of Portugal's maritime history is a blend from across regions. It is a rich wine, packed with black fruits and ripe tannins. A generous structure, succulent acidity and the dry core are now well in balance. "This powerful, rich wine is succulently packed with black fruits. With its balance already assured between its spicy edge and silky tannins, it is ready to drink now." 91pts Wine Enthusiast, #4 on 2021 Top 100 Best Buys of the Year
Broken Earth Winery “Diablo Negro” Petite Sirah - The distributor found some cases of the 2016 vintage that were in the wrong spot in the warehouse and have been sitting and ageing for 3 years and offered them to us as a fantastic price. The current 2019 vintage sells for $36 at the winery! Dark and intensely colored, verging on black, which is where the “Black Devil (Diablo Negro)” moniker comes from. rafted from 100% Petite Sirah from their estate vineyard, located on the hillside to the far east side property where the fruit receives ample afternoon sun, allowing for the development of distinct varietal characteristics, rich color and a powerful presence. The nose shows rich black and brambly fruits, vanilla bean and roasted coffee. This wine is lush and easy-drinking, exhibiting intense berry characters, with superb texture you will find in none other than Petite Sirah. A perfectly aged Petit whose youthful tannins have mellowed nicely and are drinking beautifully.
