We're assuming that since the production of this wine is so small and sells out through his own mailing list, Fayard doesn't feel the need to send free bottles out to reviewers, because we can't fine any scores. But Ben and Cory can both vouch for how fantastic the Coombsville Cab from Covert as they've been fortunate enough to visit with Julian at the property and taste with him. Here's what Julian has to say about the 2015 vintage:
Though the vines produced fewer berries per cluster, those clusters were ideally shaped and well-ventilated for ensuring uniform ripening and exposure, which means the flavor is full and extremely concentrated. Following a warm summer, the warmest in the last decade, harvest began in late September. While small in volume, the resulting wine is a quintessential Napa Cabernet. Bright, lush red fruit full of concentration with elegant aromatics due to our cooler Coombsville climate.
Tasting NotesThis is a classic Coombsville Cabernet: rich black fruit, and an elegant, velvety texture with unparralled freshness. The nose presents deep boysenberry, and vanilla oak notes with vibrant cassis. On the palate, a ripe and lively black fruit core blends with Moroccan mint tea aromas and gentle earthiness. Full but soft tannins carry the dark fruit through a long, fluid finish.
