This month’s case includes 1 bottle of each wine (3 whites, 2 roses & 7 reds):

Fournier Sauvignon Blanc (France) – Fournier Pere & Fils is one of the Sancerre and the Loire Valley's top producers and their base Sauvignon Blanc for 2020 is absolutely stellar. In fact we thought it was better than many "real Sancerres" that we've tasted lately and HALF the price! Sourced and blended from their vineyards throughout the Loire Valley (mostly Tourainne) this mouth wateringly delicious Sauvignon Blanc is a fresh, crisp, fruity white with sliced apple and pear character, medium body and a clean, crisp finish. Nice fennel, mineral and gooseberry undertones.

Mader Pinot Blanc (France) – It was really fantastic having Jerome Mader at the shop recently and while all the wines were great, Cory's favorite remains the Pinot Blanc.  Rich and full flavored up front yet finishing clean and light, this wine has the stuffing to pair with just about any type of cuisine you want to throw at it.  Think Gewurztraminer (DRY!!!) crossed with Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc and you've got great Pinot Auxerrois/Blanc like this one here.

Agerre Getariako Txakolina (Spain) - If you're unfamiliar with Spain's Txakolina wines, then this is a great one to start with. This 100% Hondarribi Zuri from Agerre, third-generation wine growers in Getaria, is a classic Txakoli that will have you agreeing that Txakolina is one of the world's most refreshing types of wine. Fermented with native yeasts, so you get salty, earthy, delicate notes without the confected character that pervades Txakolis made with commercial yeasts. Lime blossoms, brine, savory minerals, a hint of sweet smoke and dried herbs, sea salt air, and green apple acidity invigorate the appetite.

Moulin de Gessac "Guilhem" Rose (France) – Grown on 25 to 50 year-old vines grown on stony soils. The color is pretty, a pale pink. Nuances of peach, strawberry, wildflower and “flint” on the nose. Flavors of almost ripe raspberry, apricot and peach delight the palate and finish with crisp sweet/tart acidity balanced with a hint of minerality. This beautiful Rosé is crafted from the typical southern France/Provence blend of grapes – Grenache, Syrah & Carignan.

Bieler "Sabine" Aix en Provence Rose (France) -Many credit the Bieler family with helping to launch the dry Rose revolution in the USA, and it is fantastic quality/price ratio wines like this that helped them do it.  The wine is quite aromatic and jumps out of your glass with the classic Provence tug of war between wild red fruit berries as if you just picked them along a path to the beach, floral notes of lavender and rose petal and underlying savory herbes de Provence. It is beautifully crisp and flavorful on the palate with medium body and notes of red berries, bing cherries, spice and no oak. The finish is long and refreshing.

Hopler "Pannonica" Red (Austria) - It has been a while since we had tasted the Hopler line of wines, and we were really impressed by the quality of the range of wines, top to bottom, but it was the "bottom" that really wowed us.  How can they produce such complex and flavorful wines at such low prices!?  Pannonica is blended from local varietals  (Zweigelt, Pinot Noir,  & Blaufrakisch) perfectly balanced in this juicy and spicy red blend.  Black and red cherry fruits are expressed on the nose and palate. Juicy fruit firmly stands in the foreground on a smooth palate which also has lovely, exciting tinges of white pepper spice. The body is fresh and light, the finish is refreshing and irresistible.

Pinord Marques de Pluma Ribera del Duero (Spain) - You may be more familiar with Rioja's name for the grape, but here in Ribera del Duero it is known as Tinto Fino. Crafted from vines that are 35+ and hand harvested/sorted this is a lot of wine for less than $20. Aged in a blend of French and American oak barrels, it offers intense aromas Bigarreau cherry, red forest berries and spice. Flavors of the fresh red fruit are complimented by touches of vanilla, leather and spice. The lingering finish is smooth, well structured and offers a pleasant balance between the fruit and the barrel.

Ferraton Cotes du Rhone Villages "Plan de Dieu" (France) – Plan de Dieu which means "God's Plan" is one of the 18 Cotes-du-Rhone named villages. These wines are a step up from the basic Cotes-du-Rhone Villages designation, which itself is a step up from the plain Cotes-du-Rhone designation.  Attractive aroma full of blackberry, black cherry and spice along with hints of mint and other dried herbs and earth. Tasting reveals a smooth, savory and delicious medium to full-bodied wine with great structure. All the same notes from the nose appear in the mouth along with some black pepper and licorice.

Jean-Paul Dubost Beaujolais-Villages (France) –  This parcel of vineyards in Beaujolais, originally known as Domaine du Tracot but now called Domaine Dubost, has been owned by the Dubost family since 1902.  Gorgeous violet color with jammy, inviting aromas and flavors of ripe berries, banana pastry, toffee, and kiwi relish with a satiny, vibrant, fruity medium body and a graceful, interesting, medium-long finish with a suggestion of oak flavor. A lipsmacking, wholly satisfying Beaujolais-Villages that is sure to please, especially on a hot evening with a slight chill.

Kanonkop "Kadette" Pinotage (South Africa)As grilling season gets into full swing, few wines are more perfectly suited to pairing with foods cooked over some hot coals than South Africa's signature varietal Pinotage. Attractive crimson hues, with scented aromas of red currants, strawberry comfit and dried rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied and opulent, with finely textured tannins and flavors of red pastille sweets, bright cherries and a hint of spice. The acidity is in balance with the fruit and wood components, and adds a sparkle of freshness to the alluring red berry flavors on the finish.

Vilamar Cab/Merlot (Spain) - This 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is at the perfect age and is sublimely silky.  This blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cab Sauvignon is intense purple in color with a complex nose and palate showing raspberry, blackberry and red fruits framed with hints of licorice, black pepper, cocoa and vanilla.

Clos LaChance Cabernet Sauvignon (California) -  The Clos LaChance Cabernet Sauvignon is a garnet color in appearance. The bouquet burst with notes of plum, blackberry, and pepper. Upon first sip, flavors of fresh blueberries, white pepper, and plum are front and center. The palate is medium-bodied, with medium tannins and light acidity.
