Green Eyes Gruner Veltliner 1L (Austria) – Now that the Skeleton GruVee is no longer available, the Green Eyes is our current favorite value Gruner. Light in color, crisp and refreshing, Hermann Moser’s Green Eyes Grüner Veltliner is a textbook example of Austria's signature white wine with an appealing bouquet of freshly picked pears mingled with a hint of spice for which Grüner Veltliner is renowned. Appetizing and lively in the mouth, Moser’s Green Eyes goes down easily, but not before treating the taste buds to an appetizing burst of citrus and clean mineral flavors that leave the mouth begging for more . It also a great match for spicy South-West and Asian cuisine.
Menard Cotes de Gascogne Blanc (France) – Domaine de Menard is situated in the tiny village of Gondrin in the Cotes de Gascogne and was founded in 1920. Originally consisting of 10 hectares, the estate really became established when Jean Francois' daughter Denise and her husband Jean Jegerlhener, took over production in 1960 and constructed a new winery to coincide with a major replanting of the vines. Today there are over 120 hectares supervised by Denise and Jean's daughter Elisabeth, a trained oenologist, An award-winning wine , this is a blend of 70% Colombard & 30% Ugni Blanc. A pale straw yellow in color, it features aromas of mango, pineapple and citrus fruits. On the palate, ample, fresh and elegant floral tones with tropical and citrus fruit flavors and finishing with a light yet waxy texture.
Dow Vale do Bomfim White (Portugal) – Dow is one of Portugal’s most famous Port producers and lots of wine lovers recognize the Dow name. Most people though, don’t realize that the winery also makes fantastic, dry style table wines; AND that they’re a certified B Corp! Bomfim is the name of their famous vineyard that produces the red grapes for their top Port wines, but the higher altitude portions are planted to white varietals. A 45% Malvasia Fina, 25% Rabigato, 10% Viosinho and 10% Arinto and 10% field blend it has exuberant fruity aromas of apricot, peach and pineapple with some subtle honeysuckle fragrance in the background. On the palate, the wine offers up zesty, crisp fruit flavors with lively freshness and saline minerality.
Tombacco Pecorino Terre Di Chieti (Italy) - The Tombacco wines latest label update have a vintage/retro look that pay homage to the first labels ever released by the winery, designed by the great grandfather of the current owner nearly a century ago. Their offerings are robust and flavorsome – typical of their roots in Campania and Abruzzo – and will transport you instantly to the sunny terraces of the Amalfi Coast and classic pizzerias of Naples through their indigenous varietal wines. Here we have their Pecorino (made from the grape Pecorino, not the cheese!), in the glass it has a beautiful shining golden tone – a prelude to rich aromas with hints of exotic fruit and soft spicy notes. On the palate the Pecorino is a complex and beguiling wine, with good acidity and mineral notes, and hints of ginger, orange peel, and even a touch of lemongrass. It has palate weight and a long, intense finish.
La Berriere Muscadet “Cotes de Grandlieu” Sur Lie (France) – Don’t confuse Loire’s Muscadet with the any of the other wines that have musc in the name (Moscato, Muscadine… the grape is actually Melon de Bourgogne) as these are completely different; light, crisp, minerally and very dry. The Cotes de Grandlieu is considered the premier appellation of Muscadet, and La Berriere tends to vines of more than 30+ years, resulting in wines of great concentration, minerality and depth of flavor. I t’s aged on its lees (sur lie) for six months, giving it a rich texture and a complex flavor. It’s crisp, refreshing and citrusy, with notes of lemon, grapefruit, briny minerals and white flowers.
French Escape Haute Provence Rose (France) – If you can’t enjoy the epicurean and romantic getaways one can find in the beautiful scenery and vineyards of Provence in person, then pour yourself a glass of this delicious Rose and imagine yourself there. A classic blend 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 10% Muscat sourced from of the best vineyards in Provence. A lovely copper salmon color, this Grenache based, organically farmed rosé reveals a pleasant melange of red berry and bold, ripe stone fruit on a lubricious palate with nice balancing acidity and good length.
