The mixed case includes 2 bottles each wine:
Paulo Laureano Classico Red (Spain) - Since the 1990's, Paulo Laureano has been recognized as one of the top winemaking consultants in Alentejo. This was a big hit a couple months ago when we featured it in our Portuguese Wine Month Sampler and is a perfect springtime red.

A blend of Trincaceira, Aragonez and Alfrocheiro it whafts aromas of plum confit notes, blackberries, black olive and spice, all in a balanced and attractive package. The soft, enveloping palate has notes of plum, ripe red pepper, and fruits of the forest backed by silky tannins and an elegant long finish.
Giovine Valerio Rosso (Italy) - A fantastic new blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cabernet Merlot and Freisa from one of our favorite producers of incredible value wines in Piemonte. Ripe red fruit with earthy undertones greets you out of the glass.  Tasting the wine reveals primary flavors of Bing cherry, forest berries, roses and baking spice ending with a clean finish.

Peterson Family Vineyards "Zero Manipulation Red" (California) - Peterson Vineyards is known primarily for their incredible Zins and Rhone varietal wines and not that their fantastic Shameless Red is all gone, their distributor has offered their "Zero Manipulation" red blend at a similarly fantastic price.   Aged for 30+ months in neutral oak and crafted with minimal intervention (as the name would imply) its amazing that Peterson can offer such a wine at this price.  This year's blend is 68% Carignan, 27% Grenache and 5% Syrah and has vibrant aromas of dusty red berries (juicy strawberry and young raspberry) fill the nose for a fabulous first impression. This bright entry soon reveals the depth, concentration and structure of this delicious blend. Deep spicy notes intertwine with red and dark berries, plum, and hints of rhubarb and savory herbs. A rich essence of dried strawberry lingers in the long finish. This deliciously price wine drinks like a much higher-end Rhône red.

Aguijon de Abeja Bonarda (Argentina) - Originally an Italian varietal, Bonarda grapes have found popularity in Argentina, where it produces medium-bodied wines with a nice hit of freshness. The palate offers notes of fresh berries, stone fruits and savoury spices. The grapes in the Durigutti brothers' wines are organically grown and hand-harvested. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, no winemaking additives are used and the wines are not fined or filtered. Sulfite levels are only 25-30 mg/L. Originally an Italian varietal, Bonarda grapes have found popularity in Argentina, where it produces medium-bodied wines with a nice hit of freshness. The palate offers notes of fresh berries, stone fruits and savory spices.

Clayhouse Malbec (California) - We don't see too many 100% Malbecs coming out of California, but after trying this beautifully aged, yet still vibrant example from Clayhouse you'll wonder why.  Deep vibrant purple/black color with complex aromas of violets, wood-spice, orange zest, sweet fennel, vanilla, and black cherry fruit. The wine has good weight on the palate, with ripe plum and fresh loganberry flavors. There's a sweet fruit finish with good length, chewy tannins and light-roast complexity. This Cali Malbec has good acidity, which brings a juiciness that pairs well with cured meats and specialty cheeses, as well as simply prepared steak.

Fazio "Gabal" Nero d'Avola (Sicily) - This small, organic, family owned producer in NW Sicily produces a number of fantastic wines, but our favorite is definitely their Nero d'Avola.  With a lively and intense ruby red color and the characteristic scent of the grape, with delicate and persistent notes of red berries, such as black currant, blueberry and cherry with a velvety and persistent flavor with harmoniously elegant with fruity notes.
