Bouquet of Roses, 6-pack sampler includes:
Hell' Celt Sparkling Rose (Loire Valley, France) - Some of you will love the somewhat creepy skull imagery on the label and some of you will probably hate it. We hope that those of you who fall outside the "love it' category will give this fantastic, delicious and affordably sparkling Rose from France's Loire Valley a chance.
Santola Vinho Verde Rose (Portugal) - Santola is a perennial favorite and an absolutely crazy value for just $9 per bottle. The Santola Vinho Verde Rosé is made exclusively from red grape varieties. A soft crushing and pressing make it possible to gently extract the juice. The Rosé must is clarified, resulting in a bright, clear wine. The final wine has vibrant aromas and flavors of fresh strawberry, pomegranate and orange zest, which are corralled by a pleasantly light spritz. Very refreshing.
There is of course a story behind the label. Chateau de la Galissoniere was commissioned to create special wines for the French heavy metal music festival known as Hellfest. One of Europe's largest music festivals, and being European, even metalheads appreciate a great glass of wine while they are head banging in the heat of the summer. The wines and the label were such a hit that the winery decided to keep producing the wines and release them to other markets. Love or hate the labels, this small Loire Valley Chateau produces some fantastic wines.
The Hell' Celt Classic Sparkling Rose exhibits a brilliant, delicate salmon-pink color punctuated by fine, pinpoint bubbles which suggest the wines fresh, raspberry and cassis fragrance. On the palate it is very dry and crisp, with plump, succulent red fruit flavors offset by subtle earthy notes and a lovely generosity on the clean, persistent finish.

Hogwash Rose (California) - Hogwash was conceived to be the perfect match for a summertime pig pickin' and we believe that they've indeed a delicious Rose that will go with not only pulled pork, but all of your favorite spring and summertime fare. The 2021 vintage of Hogwash expresses aromas of white lily, sliced strawberry, and grapefruit. On the palate, you’ll experience nectarine and mandarin orange with a clean and precise finish. A lingering of lemon zest and honey leaves you refreshed and thirsty for more.
Domaine de Montrose Rose (France) - Nine generations of the Coste family have farmed their vineyards in Provence and other prime areas of southern France. This elegant, pale rosé is a blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah from Languedoc's calcareous clay, volcanic gravels. Dry and crisp, with hints of summer berry, florals, and Mediterranean citrus, this vibrant rosé finishes with a rasp of tannins, making it particularly food-friendly.
Backsberg Pinotage Rose (South Africa) - The most unique/rare Rose in our sampler is this fantastic wine crafted from South Africa's signature red varietal Pinotage. Red fruit flavors of cherry and strawberry give way to minty freshness gleaned from earlier picked fruit. Lightly tinted from red grape skins, this salmon hued wine is fruity and juicy on the palate. Low in tannins, it displays delightful notes of melon, ripe tropical fruit and strawberry.
Cabriz Dao Rose (Portugal) - In a blind tasting, we're betting most will guess this to be a $25 or more Rose from Provence. Blend of 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Alfrocheiro it is light-medium bodied, ripe, tangy, and honeyed on the palate with cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and grapefruit flavors with a kiss of juicy fruitiness that's balanced by fresh, crisp acidity. Some apple and stone fruit flavors come through on the back palate, joining the cherry and raspberry notes, plus touches of leesy mineral that linger on the finish, with very good length.
