It’s time to shine on with 5 great brews this week! More great beers from D9 Brewing, Bell’s Brewery, Ballast Point and Spoetzel!
BELL’S BREWERY (KALAMAZOO, MI)
TWO HEARTED ALE IPA – ABV 7%
Available in 4pk 16oz. cans $9.99
We are excited to share that one of Bell’s most famous year round beers is back in stock at Taylor’s! Named after the famous Two Hearted river in Michigan’s upper peninsula, this American style IPA is dry hopped with 100% Centennial hops and balanced with American malts that are present throughout. Lots of citrus and pine aromas combine with a medium bodied mouthfeel to produce a very drinkable IPA. Not as hop forward as traditional west coast IPAs, this ale is great for any time of the year. And in its new can packaging, Two Hearted is definitely suited for outdoor activities.
D9 BREWING CO. (CORNELIUS, NC)
SYSTEMA NATURAE SCUPPERNONG & LILY SOUR ALE ABV 7%
Available in 4pk bottles $14.99
This sour ale is a part of D9’s beer series Systema Naturae, “system of nature,” which was created to explore scientific processes and ingredients exhibited throughout the natural world. This ale is made with grapes from North Carolina, lily, and fermented with wild lactobacillus and yeast. These ingredients produce an interesting and complex earthy flavor profile. Expect a juicy tartness at the start and a dry finish with some fruity flavors lingering after. Sounds a little weird especially since it’s coming from a 10 barrel production microbrewery, right? Well, this particular sour won gold in the category of experimental beer at the North American Beer Festival in Denver, CO last year!
SPOETZL BREWERY (SHINER, TX)
SHINER RUBY REDBIRD – ABV 4.01%
One of the largest and oldest independent breweries in the country, Spoetzl has made Shiner a household name through their beers. Every drop is still brewed in Shiner, Texas since they began in 1909. This light golden beer is made with real Texas Ruby Red grapefruit and ginger. Imagine a ginger ale without the bitterness combined with a subtle grapefruit tartness that tastes clean and refreshing with a hint of spice! Brewed with 100% Munich malt and balanced with Mount Hood, Citra, and Cascade hops, it’s everything you need in a summer beer. Perfect for people who like lighter options or ciders.
BALLAST POINT BREWING (SAN DIEGO, CA)
RED VELVET NITRO STOUT – ABV 5.5%
Available in 6pk bottles $16.99
Ballast Point had their Red Velvet on tap in their tasting room and because of its success, they decided to expand upon this interesting oatmeal stout and create a new series. The first of many beers to be bottled with nitrogen, Red Velvet Nitro is an enhanced version of their famous Red Velvet. A golden oatmeal stout brewed with beets and chocolate, Red Velvet Nitro has an earthy component that partners well with the chocolate notes and ensures this stout is rich without being too sugary. Pours deep red with a thick white foamy head that resembles icing on a red velvet
