Winemaker Notes
In 2003, after falling in love with area during a visit in 2000, Buenos Aries kidney doctor Patricia Ortiz left her medical practice behind and purchased the struggling Tapiz Winery from Kendall-Jackson Family Wines. Over the last 20 years, Ortiz and her winemaking team, which includes head winemaker Fabian Valenzuela who is assisted by consultant Jean Claude Berrouet (head winemaker at Petrus for 40+ years & Dominus Napa Valley!), have turned Tapiz into one of Mendoza's most important wineries.
The winery and estate vineyard is organically and sustainably farmed and is one of Mendoza's highest altitude vineyard sites, sitting at over 4300 feet above sea level. The Alta Collection series of wines are one Artentina's best values and we love this 2019 vintage Malbec.
Critical Acclaim
94pts James Suckling
Powerful and elegant reflective of the pristine vineyard site. In the glass an enchanting deep ruby with a hint of magenta. Aromas are driven by a core of plum and blackberry embraced by a layer of violet and lilac with tobacco and vanilla. The mouthfeel is plush yet restrained with dark fruit, spice and silky tannin that make it memorable along with a long lasting finish.
