Italian Wine Sale

August is all about Italian wines at Taylor’s.  Italy is the largest wine producer on the planet (or tied with France, or 2nd behind France, depending on who’s counting and the vintage) and is certainly one of our favorite “go to” wine regions for food friendly vino and all month long every Italian wine is on sale. Italian Wine Sale  10% off single bottles, 1-5   15% off when you buy 6 or more  Click below to shop our Italian Wine Sale online and enter promo code ITALY10 at checkout to save 10%! A Few Featured Wines from Italy: Bidoli 2015 Pinot Grigio $10.99 A staple since The Haw River Wine Man, JIm Stock first found this little, family owned winery on a trip to Italy and began importing their wines directly to North Carolina 20 years ago. Since then it has remained one of the best Pinot Grigio values around. It always amazes us when people come in and say they don’t like Pinot Grigio because it’s too sweet because they’ve only tried mass produced versions from grocery stores and pizza joints. Good Pinot Grigio is crisp and refreshing with lime citrus, tart apple and refreshing acidity, which is exactly what Bidoli delivers. Casa Contini 2013 Brindisi Riserva – Taylor’s: $14.99 Brindisi is one of the small DOCs located within Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot. The brutish, dark skinned Negromaro grape makes this region’s best wines and that is true here with Casa Contini’s Riserva bottling. The Botter family tames the Negroamaro beast with small amounts of Malvasia Nera and Sangiovese along with liberal amounts of lavish...

Riedel Seminar

RIEDEL STEMWARE SEMINAR Tuesday, September 20th, 6:30pm Seating limited to 18 $55 per person (Take Home $60 worth of glassware) BUY TICKETS Ever wonder why some people make such a big deal about their wine glasses? Here’s your chance to see for yourself how big of a difference the wine glass can make in your taste and perception of the wine. Glassware and crystal makers since the mid-1700’s, the Riedel Stemware Company was the first one to demonstrate the size and shape of a wine glass can greatly alter how the wine tastes and is perceived. In the 1950’s Claus Riedel (pronounced like needle but with an “r”) introduced the first wineglasses designed specifically for certain wine varietals. Over the decades since, Riedel has introduced a number of “Varietal Specific” wine glasses and proven to just about everyone that the proper glass can enhance the enjoyment of your wine. We’ll be tasting 5 wines from their proper Riedel glass against the same wine from a non-Riedel “joker” glass and we’ll begin the night with a little sparkling wine. At the end of the night we guarantee that you’ll be amazed how much the glass influences the way your wines tastes AND you’ll get to take your 5 glasses home with you – 1 Sparkling, 1 Chardonnay, 1 Sauvignon Blanc, 1 Cabernet, & 1 Pinot Noir...

Burly at the Barn

BURLY WINE CELLAR DINNER Saturday, Sept. 17 | $150 per person 6pm Social – 7pm Dinner Buy Tickets Here: http://www.angusbarn.com/cart/Burly-Wine-Dinner-Saturday-September-17-2016-P111.aspx The name for BURLY originates from founder Hank McCrorie’s college football days, when he was dubbed “Burly Bear” by the local paper. The nickname stuck among his teammates and given the bold nature of this wine, is more than a befitting tribute. The oak tree display on the label is not only a symbol connecting the McCrorie’s childhoods – Hank growing up surrounded by the beautiful southern oaks of North Carolina and Bernice the sprawling oak trees at the family ranch in Northern California – but also embodies the intrinsic flavors of tannins and oak, balanced by the beauty of its velvety, rich and flavorful layers. Dinner Menu 1st Course: Roasted Quail with Chestnut, Andouille, and Cornbread Stuffing over Collards and Mustard Greens topped with Thyme Jus 2014 Burly, Chardonnay 2nd Course: Slow Braised Pork Belly Salad with Frisse & Rocket Lettuce and Pickled Radishes 2014 Burly, Sauvignon Blanc 3rd Course: Sorbet 4th Course: Black Truffled Beef Medallions served with Smashed Turnip & Yukon Gold Potatoes, Chevere, Roasted Brussel Sprouts, and Baby Carrots 2011 & 2012 Burly, Cabernet Sauvignon 5th Course: Wild Berry Napoleon with Mango & Lavender Cream and Raspberry & Chambourd Puree 2012 Burly, Cabernet Sauvignon, Special...
Taylor’s Private Label

Taylor’s Private Label

TAYLOR’S WINE SHOP PROUDLY PRESENTS… OUR VERY OWN, PRIVATE LABEL WINE! Taylor’s 2013 Porch Pounder Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands $34.99 BUY NOW Once upon a time, Taylor and a few of his wine drinking pals were in California hanging out with the Garys (Pisoni of Pisoni Winery and Franscioni of Roar) and Roar’s winemaker, Ed Kurtzman, and they came up with the idea doing a Taylor’s private label. Ed said that he had a stray barrel or two of fantastic Sierra Mar Vineyard Pinot Noir that he thought would be perfect for us and a taste or two later, Taylor’s Porch Pounder Pinot was born. Now that all the hurdles of of label design, ABC approval, transportation… have been cleared, our first private label wine is here! Ed Kurtzman is one of California’s top Pinot Noir specialists, having made incredible wines over the years for well known Pinot houses such as Roar, Calera, Testarossa and Fort Ross. Ed has delivered another stunner here, and at a great price compared to what many of his wines go for at the “big name” producers. A sensuous dark reddish purple in color, this silky Pinot is highly aromatic, featuring scents of crushed purple grapes, dark berries, spring flowers and black tea. A voluptuous wine with sustained mid palate flavors of sweet boysenberry, blackberry, plum along with notes of cola, smoke and...
