Bombers $5.99 Stone, known for brewing big bold complex beers, dedicates most of their brew space to IPAs. if you’re familiar with their “Enjoy By” series, you probably know they’re committed to being really transparent about the freshness and quality of every beer they produce. This transparency is rooted in the ingredients they use while brewing. Their IPAs are often loaded with a crazy level of hops and sometimes contain fresh fruit. This particular release features whole tangerines and pineapple. Every part of the tangerine is employed including the bitter pith. Rather than excluding this part of the fruit, the guys at Stone built up the hop bill. Sterling, Citra, Centennial, Azacca, and Mosaic hops are used to transform the fruit and intensify the drinking experience. All of these hops contribute a floral aroma and some citrus. Expect a lot of tangerine, lemon, melon, and just pure tropical bliss. The Sterling and Mosaic hops add a layer of herbal spice that makes this IPA that much more complex. The pineapple lingers in the background and really grounds the tangerine, heightening the fruity tropical notes. Terrapin Beer Co., Athens GA Lucille Imperial Stout...

ANDI’S BEER CORNER The craft/micro -brew world is always changing.  Keep an eye on this section so see Andi’s most exciting and newest additions. Celebrate North Carolina Craft Beer month by taking 10% off any size single and 15% off make-your-own 6 packs for the entire month of April! Now check out what in Andi’s Beer Corner this week: Blake’s Hard Cider, Armada MI Cyser ABV 6.9% Available in 22 oz. bomber $12.99 One of the biggest misunderstandings in the cider world is the definition of a “cyser.” Cidermakers understand it to be the combination of apple juice (cider), honey, and yeast. It’s very similar to a mead which is commonly referred to as honey wine. There’s a lot of gray area here because a cyser really does fall into the category of a mead but there are some differences. Mead is produced in a very similar way to wine and even uses the same yeast as wine during the fermentation process. Cysers, despite the added honey ingredient, stay true to the cider making process. You can think of cyser’s as variants of both a cider and a mead. This one from Blake’s showcases the bee crisis on our planet by donating a portion of sales from each bottle to the Honeybee Conservancy. The Conservancy offers Sponsor-A-Hive projects to organizations such as schools and community centers to educate people on bees and allow them to connect with them in a way that highlights their importance to the earth. This Cyser is made with apple blossom honey and has hints of bergamot and jasmine. A very unique take on a...

ANDI’S BEER CORNER MARCH 28

CHECK OUT WHAT’S IN ANDI’S BEER CORNER! MARCH 28TH, 2017 The craft/micro -brew world is always changing.  Keep an eye on this section so see Andi’s most exciting and newest additions. Just a reminder… For the entire month of March we are taking an additional 20% off all bombers! Bombers are 22 oz. singles commonly used by a brewery to showcase a special or limited release beer. Rather than committing to a 6 pack, bombers are a great way to try something new. Larger than a single 12 oz. beer, they are easily shared. Yet smaller than a 40 oz. beer, they can be enjoyed alone. Most people associate this larger bottle with heavier styles of beer like porters and stouts or something that has been barrel aged. Nowadays breweries are using bombers as a format for all styles of beer! Now check out what in Andi’s Beer Corner this week: Bell’s Brewery, Kalamazoo MI Oberon Wheat Ale ABV 5.8% Available in 6 pack bottles $11.99 March 27th was the official release day of Oberon, the summer seasonal from Bell’s Brewery. It was first brewed and released in the mid 90s and has since developed a huge following especially in Michigan, the brewery’s home state. Each year’s release date is a state holiday called Oberon Day with events starting at midnight. The biggest drive for such a positive reception, aside from the taste and quality of the beer, is to celebrate the end of a long Michigan winter and the beginning of a highly anticipated warm season. Everything about this beer evokes a summertime feel right down to its...

ANDI’S BEER CORNER MAR 21

CHECK OUT WHAT BREWING IN ANDI’S CORNER THIS WEEK! MARCH 21ST, 2017 Terrapin Brewing, Athens GA Mosaic Red Rye IPA – ABV 6.3% Available in 6 pack cans $11.99 Following the creation of Mosaic hops in 2012, Terrapin released this American style IPA as the 19th beer in their Side Project series. The beer had such a positive reception, it is now a yearly Spring seasonal release. The star of the show here is definitely the new hop variety Mosaic, the offspring of Simcoe and Nugget hops. The combination of these two varieties produced something incredibly dynamic. Mosaic’s sharp spike in popularity following its release is rooted in its triple-use profile. It imparts aroma, bittering, and flavor to beer. The result is really powerful mostly because you can achieve a complex beer with just the single hop. “Mosaic” contains 100% Mosaic hops and quite a few different styles of malt. The malts create a hearty body and mouthfeel to give some dimension to the already multi-dimensional hops. There are flavors of toasted malt closely followed by earth and grass and ends with a refreshing and juicy tropical mango finish. Expect a heavy aroma of grapefruit, melon, and pine. Ponysaurus Brewing & Mystery Brewing “Don’t Be Mean to People: A Golden Rule Saison” North Carolina Farmhouse Ale – ABV 6% Available in 4 pack 16 oz. cans – $13.99 We are excited to carry Bull City’s Ponysaurus in our shop! Among their year round offerings, we also have in stock their collaborative Spring seasonal saison! It was first released last year after the passing of the Public Facilities Privacy and...

Lambics are a wheat style specific to an area of Belgium near Brussels called the Pajottenland region. They contain malted barley and unmalted wheat, giving them more body than traditional American and German styles. They are also made with aged and dried hops which carry little traditional hop flavor but rather act as a preservative. In the brewing process, lambic beers are left in open wooden barrels to encourage airborne wild yeast and bacteria specific to the...
