Another Great Week and More Great Brews! Check out this weeks featured brews by Andi from Honey Ale’s to Stouts! GOODWOOD BREWING (FORMERLY BLUEGRASS BREWING) BRANDY BARREL HONEY ALE – ABV 8.7% 4 pk bottles $13.99 Louisville’s longest continuously operated brewery is doing something no other brewery in the US has done… using limestone water to make their beer. This high pH level water promotes fermentation and makes the beer taste amazing. This is exactly what makes Kentucky famous for their bourbon. Limestone filters out impurities that could inhibit the taste of liquor, like iron, and adds minerals to water. The guys at Goodwood have tapped into this essential ingredient and use it in every beer they produce. They also spend extra time wood-aging their beers and guarantee that every batch they brew will come into contact with splinter-free wood at some point in the production process. The longest barrel-aged beer they make, the Brandy Barrel Honey Ale, is brewed with locally sourced honey and aged in American made brandy casks. Combined with that famous limestone water, this ale “tastes like a high five.” FOUNDERS BREWING IMPERIAL STOUT – ABV 10.9% 4-pk bottles $14.99 Founders has been ranked one of the top breweries in the world for the past five years! Recognized for making great beer with complex and strong in-your-face flavor, the Founders family has no interest in making standard beers. Their rich, full bodied Imperial Stout is an example of the brewery’s commitment to pushing the limits of what is commonly accepted in the craft world. Rated 100 points on ratebeer.com, this Russian imperial is brewed with...

North Carolina has become a hub for craft beer. It’s no surprise to anyone that this agriculturally rich state is the site of some of the most successful breweries, producing some of the best beers in the country and arguably the world. Here at Taylor’s we have a lot of love for our state and its craft beer! Because Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, here’s a few of our best local NC beers that we recommend sharing with someone you love! Foothills Brewing (Winston-Salem, NC) Domicile IPA, ABV 6.5%, available in 22 oz. bombers – $7.99 This is the first beer in the rotating hop series “Craft Happiness,” an IPA project that’s rooted in defining happiness and exploring what it means to make people happy. The guys at Foothills were influenced by their love for what they do, for crafting happiness, when they decided to start this project. But this IPA series is about a lot more than just celebrating the happy community of people dedicated to craft beer, it also raises awareness of issues in our communities that can have a negative impact on happiness. Every IPA in the series will focus on a human, environmental, or animal issue and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of that beer will go to help each cause. February’s Domicile is meant to bring attention to the issue of homelessness and the inaccessibility of housing to many people not just in our local community but in our global community as well. This is an American style IPA double dry-hopped with cascade hops “dedicated to those who seek the comforts...

Taylor’s Band of Blends Private Label

Taylor’s Band of Blends Private Label

It’s Here! Our newest private label wine has arrived! Taylor’s Wine Shop presents the Band of Blends, 2014 Paso Robles Red Wine Blend, Lot #1 Band of Blends 2014 Paso Robles Red Wine Blend Lot #1 Normal Price: $50-$60, Taylor’s Label: $34.99 The Taylor’s Porch Pounder Pinot is almost gone, and we had so much fun with that first private label wine, we knew we had to do another one. So we turned to our favorite hunter of exceptional wines at incredible prices, The Treasure Hunter himself, Hunter Vogel. A blend of 43% Grenache, 38% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 9% Petite Sirah, this is a bold and spicy blockbuster you won’t believe. Hunter knew that we have loved the Moon Duck Red that he did a couple years ago with Saxum assistant winemaker Mark Adams, so he went in search of another winner from Paso Robles for the Taylor’s wine lovers and came back with this absolute stunner. As usual, Hunter can divulge the original source (otherwise the original winery couldn’t get away with charging premium pricing for their label) but he can say that it’s from a “big name,” mailing list only winery who’s stuff normally isn’t available in NC unless you’re one of the lucky few on their list. He also says that the 2013 version of this wine under the main label got 95 points from the Wine Advocate. Beautiful deep crimson color, offering up notes of black raspberries, cassis, hints of bacon fat, liquid violets and pepper. Full-bodied and concentrated, yet showing surprising finesse with a silky finish that has a beautiful purity of fruit...
